Yoga Leigh offers a modified Ashtanga yoga class for individuals of all ages looking to improve their physical and mental well-being.
Ashtanga yoga is a physically demanding style of yoga that involves a sequence of poses, or asanas, that are performed in a specific order. The practice emphasizes the connection between breath and movement, and is often taught in the Mysore style.
The name: The Sanskrit word Ashtanga translates to “Eight-limbs”, referring to the Eight-limbs of yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras. The eight limbs of yoga are yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and samadhi.
This class based on Ashtanga primary series, it is a challenging and dynamic practice that focuses on building strength, flexibility, and stamina. It begins with sun salutations (Surya Namaskara A and B) to warm up the body and establish a steady breath. Following the sun salutations, there are a series of standing, seated, and finishing postures. Each posture is designed to prepare the body for the next, creating a flowing and continuous practice.
